Susan was born and raised in South
Africa, and in the tradition of the times,
took off traveling at an early age. Her adventures took her sailing from New
Guinea through the South Pacific to Central and South America and the Caribbean,
where she ran a charter boat for a couple of years.
Southern California later became home
and she raised her two boys there.
When the internet became a reality in the 1990’s, Susan was
there, working as an online photojournalist. She covered and reported on
sailing events around the world, the most famous being the Whitbread Round the
World Race. Later, Susan covered the EDS Atlantic Challenge, following the
boats like a groupie, to Europe's many stops, across the
Atlantic to Boston
and Baltimore and back to St.
Malo, France.
Since then, she has expanded her horizons, learning the right way to write for
the web and studying SEO techniques for writers.
Travel has always been a passion, and she has traveled extensively
and continues to do so whenever the opportunity arises. During visits and
extended stays in South Africa,
she worked as a photojournalist writing lifestyle and travel articles for
Country Life magazine. Susan became involved with a couple of NGO’s that work
with African women who are infected, or affected by AIDS. This interest
continues.
Now Susan is back in the US,
living in the rather chilly Pacific Northwest and
dreaming of warmer climes. Her two sons have inherited her creative genes; Ryan
is a Producer in the television industry living in Hollywood
and Cody is a furniture designer and maker (when he isn't surfing) and recently
presented Susan with her first grandson, Oliver West Simpkins.
